History
The land that today encompasses Brooker Creek Preserve has seen many changes over time.  Its forested wetlands, pine flatwoods, and other ecosystems have supported a great diversity of wildlife as well as a wide range of human activities.  Native people hunted and gathered here for thousands of years, leaving behind spear points that date from 7000 BCE to 900 CE.  Until recently, hunting, logging, cattle-grazing, and raising citrus were common activities that shaped the local landscape for generations.  The history of Brooker Creek Preserve has mirrored much of the history of Florida.

What positive roles might we all play in the future of Brooker Creek Preserve?  Its long-term protection depends on the informed decisions of citizens, sustainable support from visitors, and cooperation among all its partners.
