Take a walk through time on this Saturday morning guided hike along the Education Center Trail.  Join us for this 0.7-mile walk as we look at how the land has changed over time and discuss the ecological footprints left by those changes.  Sturdy closed-toe shoes are a must, and water and a hat are recommended.  Pre-registration is required by 12:00 noon on the Friday before the hike of your choice.  Free. All ages welcome - children younger than 6 may find this hike challenging.

Florida Coyotes: Safely Co-existing with a Predator

Our cities with their urban noises, roadways and buildings are not immune to Florida’s relatively new resident, the coyote. Learn all about these intelligent and adaptive nomads from wildlife experts. Join us in discussing how we can keep these adaptive animals wild, respectful and beneficial in their natural role. Find out how to co-exist with them, while not creating another predator problem in our backyards.  Pre-registration is appreciated. Free.  All ages welcome.

Open Classroom - Discovering Nature with Your Child

Who lives in that skin?  What is the difference between a carnivore and an herbivore?  Whose tracks are those?  Stop by our classroom anytime between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm to participate in a variety of self-guided nature games and activities that answer these questions and many more.  Pre-registration is not required for this open activity.  This event is free and open to the public.  All ages welcome.

Stories of Florida – Con Sabor!

Book Time at Brooker Creek – The Moonflower

This program is designed to connect pre-school children to the wonders of the natural world.  This week features The Moonflower by Peter Loewer.  This beautifully illustrated story takes us on a backyard journey after dark.  Discover what is going on in the world outside your window after you have gone to bed and turned off the light. This program also includes a craft, game or other hands-on activity related to the story.   Pre-registration is required.  Spaces are limited so register early! Free. Recommended ages: 3 – 5.

Changing Seasons Guided Hikes

It’s the Photographer, not the Camera!

Do you think the only way to take good nature photographs is to have expensive, specialized camera equipment? It is the photographer that makes the photograph, not the camera!  Bring your camera and join local nature photographers Karl and Kathleen Nichter for this two-hour workshop. Learn how to apply basic digital photography techniques and photo composition to create pleasing nature pictures with your own camera. This workshop includes both classroom instruction and practice in the field. Space is limited, so register early. Pre-registration required. Free.  Best for adults, suitable for children ages 12 and up. 

Brooker Creek Matinee - DIRT! The Movie

Spring Has Sprung Extended Hike

Spring’s warmer temperatures and lengthening days bring about many changes in the natural landscape.  Join us for a brisk walk along one of the longer trails to experience spring in the Preserve.  This walk, depending on trail conditions, may be 2.8 to 4-miles long.  Sturdy closed-toe shoes are a must, and water and a hat are recommended.  Pre-registration is required by 12:00 noon on the Friday before the hike. Wildflower Talent Search

Painting the Preserve – Plein Air Painting Workshop

Plein air painting allows the artist to capture people and places as they are at that moment in time.  Join us for a day of painting in the Preserve.  Local artist Robin Borland guides students of all levels as they develop their skills with color, light, perspective, painting style and observations of their surroundings.  Students must bring their own painting supplies. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.  This program is free.  Best for adults and children age 12 and older.

Windows to “Our Wildest Place” – Exhibit Scavenger Hunt
